149 followed hard upon the heels of his disobedience, & the curse, as the punishment fell upon him & his posterity, & the two elder brothers for their respect & duty were blessed & prospered. In various instances God has rewarded filial piety & furnished in an examplary manner, disobedience & cruelty to parents.

 2. It is the duty of children to receive the council, as advice & instructions of parents. Parents have lived longer in the world than children & had more experience & therefore are able to advise & direct their children. They have passed thro' the scenes, thro' which their children have to pass; they have tasted the bitter fruit of temptations to youthful errors & follies, which has drawn them astray into the bye paths of sin & disobedience & have felt the smart of the thorns which have wounded them, until they have turned their feet into the ways of rectitude & virtue; or if happily they have been secured from the sins & follies of youth, they have seen the rocks on which others have made shipwreck, & thus are qualified to be skilful pilots to those who have just launched on the sea of life & are strangers to the ocean over which they have to pass?. And having themselves known by sweet experience the pleasures of piety & an early attention to the truths & duties of religion, they can recommend to their hearty choice, the pleasures of virtue as the chief ornament, dignity & purity of every man.  Wisdom dwells with years; & happy is the youth who profits by the experience of his parents & receives with respect ? reverence their salutary & profitable council.
