IN RE JULIA RHINELANDER DODGE,

ET AL.

VS

Old Dom S S Co NEW YORK, July 23d 1886

Col Richard J Dodge, Fort Sully D.J

Dear Sir:

Negotiations for a compromise of the above cause have been for some time pending and there is every probability that our terms will be accepted by the defendant at the next meeting of its directors. In view of the difficulty of communicating with you, we think it well to save time by sending the deed to you now as delay on our part may defeat a settlement. We also send by this mail a deed to Mrs. Dodge. Please execute this deed before a Commissioner for the State of New York if possible, if not, then before a Notary Public for Dakota and have his (the notary's) signature certified by the secretary or Governor of the Territory, the rotary will explain the modus, if you should not be informed regarding it. Please return the deed as soon as possible. There is little doubt of a fair compromise of this suit, and we may congratulate ourselves on securing one victory.

Very truly yours

Edward Pepper
