On Train Sept 12, 1883 Terrible wind storm during night tho the natives say it was unusually mild A special engine took us in tow about 7 am - we went into the desert - Arrived at The Needles about 5 pm & at once transferred our baggage into a special car of the A & P R.R. After waiting about an hour we went on - Crossed Colorado on a tiny [?] bridge. Kept awake until too dark to see then went to bed - Yucca Sand [?Mohave?] River - Silver Valley
