to camp through a lovely hunting country without seeing a thing except a fox which I shot simply because we had the wind in our backs

  Found where several Elk had been scratching & pawing & our approach had undoubtedly driven them to cover. We have been very unlucky on this hunt in the wind. Start whatever direction we may, the wind is sure either to be unclear or to go directly against our success --
