My Dear Wife:

Yesterday I gave up to rejoicing over the news from the Army of the Potomac which you had to celebrate the 4th with. Today we have additional news from Vicksburg but I am too busy to indulge. I have just bought an outfit for our Expedition. I leave here in the morning if possible. I leave Empire next Thursday but whether I shall be able to write you for two or three weeks I cannot tell. I enclose you a draft on the Depy at Chicago for $75.00 but I cannot too earnestly command economy. Recollect that I may not always have
