Monday, February 15, 1864. Reported at 81/2 o'clock and gave Capt. Halstead my letter of introduction. Studied harder today than I ever did before unclear be examined tomorrow. Have no confidence. Feel as if I would not pass.

Tuesday 16 Was examined unclear second one in the morning; and by the assistance of Providence kept cool & got along very well.
