This was a great day in this city. In the forenoon? all the distinguished military men in the city called in a body on Sec Stanton?; at the head of the column? was Gen Halleck. I recognized Gen H., Gens Hirst? unclear, Cadwalader, McDowell, Canfield & in? the afternoon I went to the Pres. reception. Had the pleasure of shaking hands with "Honest-Abe". He seemed in good spirits and looked well. Went to unclear "Soldiers Face? Library" & along with about 2000 scd? some apples & cakes sent by the ladies of Mass.
