FRIDAY, JANUARY 1, 1864. So new year comes in today May I be able to spend it in better advantage than in the one now closed. Dined on hard tack, I hope the time may soon come when "hard tack will come again no more"

SATURDAY 2 I never knew such a sudden change of weather as took place yesterday. It grew very cold. Could see snow on the Blue Ridge although there was none here it was a fine sight.

SUNDAY 3 Still very cold
