The noise and roars of laughter the splashing of water and the half strangled oath of some poor fellow as the engine played in his face, the dirty faces of the scufflers and the uncouth figures of Neptunes barbers made this one of the Most laughable scenes I ever witnessed. after it was all over I found that I had suffered more than any one else. My coat was split up the back and one tail torn off - my shirt ripped off my back and one leg of my pants torn off above the knee. Mrs. W & Family appeared to enjoy the fun more than any one else and when they caught a sight of me as I dove down the hatch I heard the clear laugh of Mr W's pretty daughter who called to her Mother to look but twas too late I was out of sight When nearly every one on board had been ducked in some way or other the Capt ordered the Boatswain to call all hands & splice the Main Brace which was done. A good dinner was given in the cabin. the day ended without accident (if we except a few tipsy men.) The Weather on the line is nearly all ways squally with frequent calms.
