I can certainly give you credit for being a good boy about writing but yet generally perus'd your letters half a Doz. times over I have one before one date May 18 in which in which you express a dislike to study & seem to think you were never intended for a literary character that is was "a dreadful bore" reviewing studies etc. at which I was very much astonished & wish to know what it means & cutting to me & the way you loung'd about the last time you were at home some of the time not half dress'd the possibility that you might turn out to be a lazy man should next few lines are mostly illegible.... fondest hopes completely crush'd I perplexed...of you..accomplishing -- you have sometimes acted to much from impulse and feeling & not enough from a sense of duty you might try to govern yourself better I suspect you allow yourself to read to much what is first obligation we are wiser to praise and bless God for his good ? to you Do your duty faithfully observe the indolence of his providence & Mercies to you try not to do but I am sure I can not tell what it will be I dont want you can lounge about here to any advantage L has I suppose told you what they say about you and your school last winter I should ?page torn think that there are several of the daughters ?page torn deal of Manuevre way to catch a ? young fellow that comes in their way and if they fail not sometimes show more of spite & venom than would commit with the character of female as you gave it to Joseph in a letter written to Joseph while you were at Mr. Dudleys it seems as if you ought to be able to keep a good school & I guess you can if you try they have a school of 3 months every fall in Royalston Do you want I should write to Mr. Parker & see if you could get it next fall and winter but May dont give so much wages what there as they do east did you carry your black hat back to Bos. what did you do with it Chas sow'd 50 bushels of grain 6 of it in Almedas his wheat looks pretty well but corn was nothing ? & has been very cold is rather dry & the crops dont look very well some of his oats sow'd ? are all dug up. Gilman has been here 8 or 9 day made the ? and fixt the back room & piazza and done the wood work of one chamber I dont know when it will get plastered Donkey proves to be a very ? beautiful nag C is breaking Nelly (the red colt) & she is a noble looking in mind stubborn as a Mule but C. will bring her to it I guess.
