Dear Mother ? Friday Jan 17th
Marshall Hill has just called here and left a Bundle etc. from you. We, that is, Ann and I were very glad to get it indeed. We have been expecting sometime, but have made out pretty well considering I have been going to write for some time, as I was somewhat in want of my Gloves, old Frock coat etc. but they have come now, nicely as can be. We are getting along as well as might be expected, I think, this cold weather. I guess that Ann, Notwithstanding her, but, if, a and, has a very good School and moreover is doing grandly in it, and will make a favorably impression. However I am afraid she has most to hard a time of it, with so many Scholars. I am getting along pretty so so in my studies. We have got all over into Cicero a Greek too etc. etc. We, that is this time, we High School boys! have got up a kind of a Club, of 20 or 30, which meet once a week, evenings, in the school room, for Declamation or Debating, improvement I am tuck'd? in for one of the Officers!!! We have met 3 or 4 times Declared a Debated at a great rate. It would be a very good thing, especially for me, if we could sustain it properly a keep order but I suspect it will soon fall to bits, for All boys, especially Bangor boys, except Poet Roberts 2 or 3 others and myself!!! are so flighty and fond play and fun and nothing else that be. I suppose it will be all finish soon. I suppose I ought to be very thankful for having such a good place etc. a everything else. I have a excellent place, lamps enough a a warm rooms good chance to study evening a only have to go but a few roads? to School.
While Eliab has to go far to School and the cold mornings a thinks no great nice light all the evening to study by. I have or can have a lamp, and place all to myself every evening, to study and write or anything and Excellent good School, few roads? off and everything Meeting a S. School etc.etc. etc. etc. etc. However Home is home if it even so homely a I do almost envy the rice tother room by the fire. Eliab dont know what it is not to be at home.
