 "The Garrison" 9Fort Loudon) "was beseiged & compelled to surrender for the want of provisions.   They were to retreat, agreeably to the terms of capitulation, beyond the Blue Ridge.   The whites threw their cannon and small arms into the river, reserving no more guns than were necessary for hunting, and commenced their march.  After they had proceeded about twenty miles, the Indians fell upon them and massacred the whole number, except nine, not even sparing the women & children.
