A fortnight ago next Tues - the last day of my vacation all suddenly, early in the morning, Eliah made his appearance. I was most truly glad to see him but disappointed that he did not come sooner - then we could have journeyed together and enjoyed so much, but we made the best of it and had a fun time, he visited with at a rich farmer which he seemed to enjoy, we had a long ride too. He left in the boat for Cleveland the next evening promising to write me in a few days which he has not yet done, and to come back this way - it will make no difference in expense - and stay two or three days. I hope he will take time enough to (unclear), I never saw him so thin I think. Sabbath eve, Aug 24th Eliah has been here since Wednes. which I have enjoyed much and he too he says, employing himself part of the time in posting accounts for Ms. Burnsey who is sick! - He will tell you all about his stay here. I received Lucy's letter last Tues, but not the promised one from Samuel, nor from you Mother. Without speaking of my desire I have to receive letters from you, I should really be much troubled at the thought of your giving up the habit of writing because some one else can write the news: by this course one after a time loses their faculty of writing, so that not only, it becomes an irksome undertaking, but truly difficult, as in the case of Charles. he is already so out of practice.
