Dear Mother Banger Jul 6th 1846 I had written a bit of a letter to send by C. but had it at the schoolroom, so when he called in the eve, I had nothing written to give him. I fear Mrs. B. will. The above was written nearly a fortnight since & I [unclear] to be new I should have sent at long letter, for there is much I want to say: but from one cause and another I have been prevented: I did not know of Eliab's going but 10 minutes before he went and I was down town, so I could not have sent a letter if I had had it written. Last Tues. I had another chance to send directly home, by Mrs. Palmer but I did not know it till 9 1/2 in eve. & she to start next morning at 4: I should have written some though but could not muster apparatus. The 4th was a lonely and rather a sad day to me: I went out to see the procession in the morning nothing very interesting to me, had to wait till 12 o'clock to see them, was vexed with myself for going, might have written a letter in the time wasted. I spent the afternoon entirely alone in the house. Joseph called a little while in the eve, he and E. had engaged to come and take a walk, if the could not succeed in making [Donk?] give us a ride, but E went down river & J. did not come thought I went with him. I suppose it is necessary and do'nt know as there is any help for it but I much regret that Joseph is so confined & that he makes himself so little of a social being: I fear it will have a disastrous effect through life in his health,
