I am sometimes afraid/wonder whether we will spoil those dear boys/brave soldier boys who have perilled their lives for us with the honors showered/our weal, by showering such honors upon them when they return to their homes, but I fear those left lingering on beds of suffering at the hospitals I have far more fear /am more afraid lest they should be wounded by a feeling of neglect and a unclear that half a line lost in fold -- can this be rescanned? needless those who have so blessed through their pain will entirely forget them. O do not think this. On this glad 4th when our hearts thrill with such emotions of gratitude even as we extend to these returned veterans our grateful welcome our thoughts instantly revert to all those absent ones to whom our thanks alike are due and who have not yet ceased their service in our/ are still suffering in their country's service and their country's good. We hope that some kind friend is near to comfort them, that some of the the little things we here send through the unclear man today he cherishes? paper folded over
