July 5, Enjoyed much last night in reading the views of George Beecher as represented in his memoir on the character of unclear & joys of heaven. My service never seems so lovely and heaven never so attractive. Praise to God for these views. July 10 - received a good long letter from father, mother & brothers H. H. has been home for some weeks sick - has now gone back & how full of gratitude sh'd I be that my friends are so well. Mother says E. Ireland is not expected to live. How fleeting is life that if we are prepared no matter how soon we go home to Christ in heaven.
