Oct. 12. Psalm 119:139. "My zeal hath consumed me, because mine enemies have forgotten thy words." Zeal for God and for his glory. The real disciple of Jesus is full of grief when beholding the enemies of God forgetful of his commands and despising reproof, rushing headlong down to death. Design of the discourse to show why good men thus grieve at the transgressions of the wicked. They love the law of God and earnestly desire to see all about them respecting and obeying it. They know too, that to disregard the law of God will prevent happiness here. They love their fellow men, and grieve to see them pursuing? a course which is certain misery for this world. More than this they know that a life of sin will lead inevitably to ruin in a coming world. They love of souls in induces them to plead with the ungodly to receive Christ. Do we grieve as did pious David over the carelessness and the danger of the unpenitent about us? Why do we not pray more; cry mightily unto God to save them. "He pervert, effectual prayer of the righteous man avaeldt much.
