Maria Gloriosa dei Frari; designed about 1250. here we saw the Monument of the Doge Nicolo Tron, who died in 1472 it is beautiful but there are so many that I cannot describe them aposite opposite? is the ^ also splendid monumment of the Doge Foscari, they are both by Bregni, with some assistance from other artists; (this latter Doge is the same of which Lord Byron mentions in his tragedy) he died Oct 30 1454/7?. this monument was erected by his grandson Nicolao (son of the unfortunate Giacomo) who filled several several important offices in the republic between 1480 + 1501. then the Monument of the Doge Giovanni Pesaro (who died 1658) it is supported by very immense black marble Moors or negroes dressed as it were in white marble with their black elbows + knees shewing through
