Alligators Unclear it is too cool yet for them to be basking in the sun as they do in warmer weather. Passing more Jetties, these are formed of wooden posts driven down & a net work of cane laid over & between them & kept in place by stones. They then serve to obstruct the smaller channels & thus drive the water through deeper ones, for the passage of larger vessels. Passed a number of oyster men & fisher men cabins, put up on piles so as to keep them from floating off--Have seen the first Island in the Gulf about 10 acres. & half dozen trees.
