December, WEDNESDAY, 30. 1863.

Commenced raining in the night & has rained nearly all day - Read a letter from Sister Sarah - rec'd an invitation to Genl McArthers on new years eve - Have written to Wells - No news & every thing as dull as can wll be imagined - Recd a Washington Paper of this 16th - Just had a call! Queer Times!!

THURSDAY, 31.

Last day in the year & a rainy cold unpleasant one it is too - To night the wind is howling around the tent and the first flakes of snow were seen in the evening - Rec'd a letter from Bro Danns which has been almost a month in coming - Been in camp all day - Davis called & was at dinner with us - Paid for bridle $10.50 J--E--B-- XX [Following text is crossed out with an X] Amt Paid ?
