Sunday June 6th 1875 note left margin X Evas death This has been cloudy -- day -- but no rain. all of us well we rose early as it was to be a sore sad day to us all this is the day that we are to lay away our precious beautiful child Eva in the cold ground, her death has caused a great panic among our friends, and hearts are bleeding all over the city for us in our sad bereavement. truly we need their sympathy for we have lost one too beautiful, too good to live at an early hour Mrs Hilton and Mr Wm Angell came to our house to arrange the flowers. We had crosses. Stars, wreaths, baskets, Anchor,s, harps and cut flowers sent in by kind friends in great profusion, every peice of very large size and one large broken column, there were all beautiful in their design,s. at one O, clock the company began to assemble and soon the house, hall, and streets were crowded with our friends, then we all put on our hats and sat up stairs in the hall to hear the services. poor Mr Angell was brought in from Mr Kearney,s and he looks like death, and there is fear of his reason leaving him, he is ill, his heart seems broke. there was four voices who sang three beautiful hymns. I know that my Reedemer liveth, Just as I am, and when the coffin was carried out they sang Nearer my God to thee. it was very affecting, we went down with all our family and relatives, and Mr Badger Mr Angell and myself in one Carriage and our immediate family in the rest, our Carriages numbered fifty Mr Angell became a little composed with us. but when we arrived at the grave Mr Kearney had the grave covered with flowers and when the Casket was lowered, it looked like in a garden, poor Mr Angell knelt at the grave like one lost, it made ones heart ache. after the services they sang, Abide with me. and then we returned home sad and lonely leaving our hearts treasure behind us. her merry laugh never to be heard again on earth her two little babes never knew their Mother,s love or saw her beautiful face.
