Saturday April 4 1863 This is a beautiful day I went downtown then came home to dinner at one Oclock. Mr. Hunt, Mrs. Hilton, Ella and myself went house hunting then downtown shopping. Children went again to see Dollie Dulton? took Ella Walker with them. After that we all wen to Toy Shop. Bought a walking doll, tow black yarn? dolls and one china doll. Then bought a lot of cakes. Mr/ And Mrs. Hilton, Ella Walter Hilton & Mr. Hunt all came and took tea with us. After tea we played cards, ate cakes and ice cream and at 12 Oclock separated.
Sunday, April 5th 1863 Another lovely day. We all in health. I went to Mr. Thomas's Church, took Belle, Eva, Ada & Sheridan. Belle and her father went out to the West End to Father Badger's. Mr. Hunt and Walter Hilton spent the afternoon with me. Mr. Hunt stayed to tea. Letter from home state that little Mattie Fields? has scarlet fever and is unclear weak. She is my little niece that has spine disease. I fear it will go hard for her. Her brother James and two colored servants just recovering from it. I wrote three letters home and sent photographs to them.
Monday April 6th 1863 it is a sunny day but cold and windy. The dust is very bad. I went to the office, met Mr. Hunt there. He invited Mr. Badger Mr. Hilton, Octavius and myself to go get oysters. We did. He went to Mr. Johnson's, had champagne and enjoyed ourselves much. It was quite a supper. We all bought unclear of Marsh Mellow Candy. I sent to Mattie Faulds? by Mr. Hunt a walking doll also a doll in an an arm chair nursing a boy to Jamie?, one also to Mattie Belle. I went to the depot and saw Mr. Hunt go. Belle and Eva have Tilly Spaulding , Ella Walker and Gussie stone to tea. After tea Mr. Bigelow came in and we played cards and drank champagne. Belle had cake and candy for her little guests. Mrs. Jennie Stewart and Mrs. Williams came to see me.
Tuesday April 7th 1863 This is a bright day. I went downtown a little while shopping with children. After tea I went with Octavius, Eva, Bella & Ada to the Philharmonic Concert. Mr. Badger had a headache and did not go.
Wednesday April 8th Again it is fair and pleasant. I received letters from home -they all better. I cut out work all morning for my sewing girl and then in the afternoon took Belle and went to see Ma. Walken's house in Terrace block but she declines to unclear. We met Sister Hilton in a hack. Went with her to the office then went down town and bought some worsted patterns for Virginia. After tea, I went with Mr. Badger & Mr. Bigelow and Octavius to see Mrs. Brandon & her sister Mrs. Meckler. After we left there we went to Mrs. Johnson's and had a Champagne supper.
