1st March. Had a splendid breakfast, saw the General off to see Genl' Auger & then set out alone to see the sights. found a great many French people keeping shop. They were universally polite, visited some fine china stores. Returned home to dinner & found the General had succeeded in getting a room on the first floor of Mrs McConnell's on [?Campt?] St. to which we removed after a dinner of "Gumbo & Oyster Soup," shrimps & crabs, which we enjoyed very much - Our room is full of easy-chairs & sofas, but is too dark to be very pleasant.
