June, Monday, 15, 1863. This morning by request of Genl Ellet took our regiment and a hundred men from col [unclear] Regiment and we march about 4 miles to Bushy Bayou as a reserve to expeditions of Marine Brigade --Brigade go to Richmond and been the town after a little fight We return to camp through a drenching shower. Tuesday 16 Forenoon warm Marine Brigade left before light Genl Ellet sent for me called upon him pleasant man. Shower in afternoon and cooler afterward_ Rode around to some of the picket posts_- called on Mrs. Evans and heard her complaints of which she had not a few. Place a guard at her house. Warm but not unpleasant after 3rd Miss Regiment come today and encamped in the [unclear] Men drill some to day a heavy detail at work in {unclear] called at the house of business below camp and took tea. Wrote a long letter to Mrs. Chilcoli and return at 10_30 P.M. "to sleep --perchance to dream"
