June, Friday 12, 1863. Slept but little last night . Rose early in the morning and went ashore & saw where the fight had been. When I reached the boat was ordered up to Goodrich Landing again. Start up at once & reach there before noon & disembark and go into camp in a very nice place. Got comfortably settled in our tents. Saturday, 13. While fixing things around Genl Desmes came & orders us to Millikens Bend & we strike tents at once. Such is a soldier experience. Boat leaving with all on board about 5 PM arrive at Millikens Bend after dark. Remain on board-call on Lt Col Payn? Carriay? Post Sunday, 14. Disembarcd? this morning & the entire day is spent in getting into camp Warm and work hard. My boy Pete got drunk & I got Mad. The Marine Brigade came up & loud just before dark.
