Friday Aug 30 1861. A beautiful it is Sister Belle Eva & Belle went walking - it blows a little cool - we are all very well.
Saturday Aug 31 1861. It is a bright morning - my children all went to depot to meet David but he did not come. Mrs Hilton & Ella called to see us - children gone walking -
Sunday Sept 1st 1861. At six this morning we all went to Depot to meet David - but he came on the other route - and came to our house in a Hack - he brought beautiful Peaches Pears and Cakes - we are all very well - Sister Virginia & family went to Church we are all in health. John Hilton dined with us. Joe wrote me a letter. Mr. Charles Tucker came to see us from Louisville.
Monday Sept 2nd 1861. It looks like rain and did severely at Six Oclock. we could not go to Cottage Grove - we had dinner at 2 Oclock as we intended to have company to supper - Mr. Charles Tucker supped with us - we are all in fine health.
Teusday Sept 3rd 1861 It is fine weather to day - at half past ten Mr. Shrene Mr. Faulit my brothersinlaws Mr Charles Tucker and my French girl Pauline all went in Cars to Louisville - Pauline is going to Soleur in Switzerland her home - she wanted to stay five years - but her Friend Emma & Cousin Madam Portman all intent going and she thought she must go - I regret it very much - I shall miss her very much and her fine fancy work also - my children I am afraid will lose all their French - my Sisters & families remain with me some weeks longer. Mr Willards and Mrs. H- unclear little girl called to see children to invite them to a Party Thursday night at Lilly H, house, ,we are going to ride this afternoon - I will write to Pa there is a great deal of trouble expected in Kentucky - between the North and South - Secession and Government affairs - I fear it will be a protracted war - with much blood shed.
Wednesday Sept 4th 1861. Weather still continued very good, all of us well, Virginia's Headache better. Mrs. Holmes called to see me - also Mrs Willard Mr Stone called from Hyde Park - much to my surprise. Mr.& Mrs. Heywood called returned from Madison Wisconsin. Lilly stayed all day with us - children went to see Ella Walker - Mrs. Heywood gave Belle & Eva last night a beautiful gold Breastpin and little children g--- unclear toys. Mr. Badger gone to his Fathers.
Thursday Sept 5th 1861. The morning is very fine - last night we had a beautiful Serenade from a find brass band - we don't know yet who gave us the Serenade - this is the day for the children to go to Mifs. Marmond
