The following was written by Mr Sherrife,who was deaf & dumb on seeing Mr Garrick act [4 flourishes]

When Britain's Roscius on the stage appears, [W]ho charms all eyes, & I am told all ears; With ease, the various passions I can trace Clearly reflected from his wondrous face; While true conception, with just action join'd [St]rongly impress each image on my mind. What need of sounds, when plainly I descry, The earnest features and the speaking eye; [Th]at eye whose bright & penetrating ray [D]oth Shakespears meaning to my soul convey [B]est commentator on great Shakespear's text, When Garrick acts [written above crossed out: speaks], no passage seems perplext.
