1866 Sunday, January 21. Washington Iowa. Did not rest very well last night. Slept in the office again last night. Went to the ME Church & heard the minister preach a very good sermon. Spent the most of the day in the office. Sherman come back just at night having had a cold ride from Iowa City. Did not go to church at night. The weather is quite cold & I have a bad cold. Took a bath in very cold water in the morning & thought I would perish.
