How many stories have past unquestion'd about ye Sybelline books & Oracles & their prophesyes of ye birth & Kingdom of Christ. And how firmly doe many at this time believe ye story of ye Seventy Interpreters of ye Old Testament into Greek, that were imployed by Ptolomy King of Egypt, how they were shutt up into so many distinct cells, & when they had finisht ye interpreta[ti]on of the whole, & came together to compare their copies they were found exactly to agree together. Whereas ye former of these is sufficiently shown already by learned men to be but a privy device of ye first Christians to bring ye Heathens into a vene -ration of their religion, wch [which] some Prophetcyes of their own had said so much of; And this latter was but another devis of ye Hellenistical Jews to raise ye esteem of ye Sephragical version.
