New Orleans April 20th 1846

My Dear Wife,

We have arrived safely at this port, and find things about as we might expect. -- All well on board. -- Met John Fuller on our arrival, he is in good health also -- We expect to leave here on Thursday without fail, + will arrive in Louisville about 29th inst --

We have the news here this evening that Mexico has declared War against the United States & blockaded her ports, which creates quite a stir, and may be correct.

The "Peytona" is about to back out, so I must bid you good bye, with my best respects to all the family & my best love to you + our little darlings. --

Your Affectionate Husband C. G. Pearce
