Dear Sherwood - Marc & Lucille did not get here for Winesburg - mistaken the day Wed. instead of Tues. & they be pressed for time went on. I saw the play last night & it has certainly improved all the actors seem to be settling down to a certain rhythm. here are a few notes I made - First scene seems to me to be to active, I feel there should be a quietness in the crowd - & more so since I saw the old veterns - crossed out veteran funeral at Grant.

2nd scene - Audience laughed at God damn that cat & snickered at Reefie for a while after. Two girls about 30 yrs

old left the theatre at this point but I learned afterward that one had fainted outside (Minis? says maybe she's pregnant but I think it just the crowd (full house except for a few seats. Applause after the act. Kate was fine, Libby I didn't feel so much can't say why - Reefy good.

3rd scene - Opened hard. George didn't seem to me to strutting youth nor eve a school youth who wanted

to tell her something . Parcival was good & got a big hand as he left the stage

4th scene - went grand, new girl as Louise but she seemed to be imitating her predesor [sic]. I didn't like her as well as Laird but

Ferd said afterward "she would get it, she's good."
