Dear Jack th [sic] Giant,

                                 yr comunique duly re-

ceived and laughed over, with, in, under, by - but not at! Lynn especially enjoyed your beseechins [sic] to our Mother of Perpetual Help, and has things of her own to add: Keep us Slim, Get us (tto) a grant, keep th [sic] tarantulas out of our tights, and the ogres out of our orgasms.

Of things political, national, and fatal,

let us say nothin, for it is past saying, as Robt. Frost used to say.

Thanks muchly for the enclosed clippings.

I think your review of Wright biography is the best single critical piece I've seen, of yours. It has the personal touch, the kind of tone O hope to see in your memoirs. (How are they arrow leading to memoirs these days?).

I'm thinking of applying for an NEH Grant,

and I should think that you'd have a good chance at one, too. Josie Herbst got one, y a know. You name your own expected fee for a year, so I'll ask about 8,000, plus some travel. Josie is about to meet her 'Autobiography' deadline in NY, I hope; er, it's not exactly an autobiog, but somewhat on the order of her "Starched Blue Sky of Spain" which appeared in the late be- mourned NOBLE SAVAGE review. Know it? Anyhow, I think you ought to apply, for NEH is espec- ially friendly (I hear) to us oldsters who never had a chance in academia.

It was good of you to send my pomes along to Poetry NW; I'll pray, while writing others. I have a bread and butter commission to do a spot of writing on native Mexico, the which I enjoy, as it's outside of the B. Traven mill, which I still tread at times. Let's not worry about the So. Ill. anthology of Crickets.
