Dear Jack:

My unusual memory can be relied upon to tell me my

mistakes, also tells me what I should have said - right after I mail a letter. I recall having said in my letter to you the other day that 12th Street was re-named, is Cermak Road, which is dead wrong, as it's Roosevelt Road. I worked at the 12 Street yard of the NYC many nights, and it's still called 12th Street by "rails," though not in operation since the "P. Co." took over.

I used to tell my fellow-slaves that the "P. Co.",

as it's called out of town, had yards and unused trackage that would swallow up all the old "Lake Shore" yards. The oldtimers always referred to the NYC properties here as the Lake Shore, and in front of the LaSalle Street sta- tion (high above the street) still can be seen the LS&MS sign on one side of the bldg. with the CRI&P sign on the other side. LS&MS stood for Lake Shore & Michigan Sou- thern, the railroad taken over by the NYC, as were a num- ber of other lines, to to make up the large railroad that the NYC became in time; the P. Co. did the same thing in growing to its full size. Now, the NYC coach yard where we used to make up the 20th Century Limited and other trains of importance and lesser ones, commuters, etc., is abandoned, and the important Englewood Yard at State & 63rd streets is only for piggy-back operations, with the freight work otherwise done on P. Co. tracks out west.

I save the Sunday funny papers for Mrs. Harris' grand-

children (Dick's kids), sometimes have too many around, and frequently think I should send PEANUTS to you, so am enclosing a few herewith. I enjoyed the recent TV showing of the Charlie Brown cartoon, the one where Lucy tries to get Schroeder's mind off Beethoven. The musical accompan- iment is always suitable and great, and I especially llke the animation when the kids and the dog walk.

Though I refuse to pay 3.00 up for movies, don't

even think people should pay such high prices for legit stage shows such as 1776, underlined I enjoy the theater and films if well done. I don't think the French Connection deserved to be called the best picture of the year, but when John Wayne was named as best actor in 1970, I knew the situa- tion was without hope. Regards, written in blue ink Mead

written in blue ink in left-hand margin P.S. underlined Am well into enjoying the Dubkin book, for which thanks a lot.
