      I read a couple of Mangione's books - I think the library

has three of them - in his photo Jerre resembles Ezra Pound, dont you think - he first married a girl on the PROject - seen in a couple of pictures in the book - maybe you gave me his address once - Harold Rosenberg has become QUITE the art critic, but I never cared for him - too Partisan-review-type-arty - and a bit of a snob I always thought - I liked Nathan Asch, and as I recall John Cheever was always disappearing ,when he was needed no one could find him - I hardly remember him altho I think we met a few times - one of Dee Browns's friends from Arkansas wrote to me several weeks ago asking about John Cheever, Dee thot I knew Cheever, but I had just met him - I do appreciate you sending the book, I sure dont have no $12 to spend on a book, I cant even afford paperbacks now - paperbacks cost as much as hardcovers - I cant count on the Alexandria Library to get the PROject book - they seem to have tight budget, but I am amazed at some of the far-out books they do get - I assume they buy some without reading them.

So thanks again - when is the CONROY issue of the Univ of

Missouri due ? Think you might-could afford to send a copy to:

                         Mr. Edmund Berkeley Jr
                         The Alderman Library
                         University of Virginia
                         Charlottesville, Virginia 22091

He is a friend of Ben Botkin, the folklore-fakelore man - Mr. Berkeley would like to have a copy of the Conroy issue I am sure. Ben Botkin was at some folklore shindig near Washington in June but I didnt get to see him or the shindig - I may not look as old as I feel but I sure FEEL old and the doc says I am over-weight and my heart cant stand weight so I guess I'll have to do Dick Gregory's thing like not eating for a couple of weeks. Doc's secretary-nurse says it would be a shame for me to die of overweight after all I been thru to stay alive. I'm just no good as a diet follower I aint.

                                                                                                      signatureJack II

written I always enjoyed that pome of HHL about the liberals. I liked your ANVIL better'n the NEW ANVIL - new one is too cluttered up with too much VARIETY - neither fish nor fowl.

written up left side Wasn't Norman MacLeod another turncoat ? I used to visit with him & his wife when he was in Washington.
