This gorgeous little bird, my favorite, came in-person to my back yard this week. He

This spectacular flycatcher is locally common in riparian vegetation near open
water in the arid Southwest. As its bright colors suggest, it is a tropical bird which ranges south to Argentina. Its latin name Pyrocephalus rubinus, means "ruby-red fire head," a fitting description of the male, but unlike most flycatchers, the female is much different, being brown and white with a tinge of pink on the sides.
