in pencil in top margin Hashem, Najwa [1979] letterhead KENT STATE UNIVERSITY KENT, OHIO 44242 DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH (216) 672-2676

April 5, 1979. Dear Jack,

Thank you so much for your friendly and reassuring letter. I should have written back sooner, but I was waiting to see if I could get some money from the University for a trip to Moberly. However, I keep hearing about the financial woes of this institution, so it seem [sic] I will have to resort to writing and telephoning.
I am very grateful to you for your encouragement and support. I can't thank you enough for always keeping the line of communication open to me. I have been a very poor example of an academic researcher & writer so far, and I have only myself to blame. You certainly have helped me along to [sic] way all you can to further my dissertation, but crossed out: things other matters kept getting in the way. I intend to devote most of my time these coming two months to the dissertation and will be in touch (via the telephone) soon.
I hope Gladys is feeling better. My best regards to her and many many thanks to you

Sincerely Najwa
