    We saw in underlined:  American Heritage - wasn't it? - an article about "SAM PATCH." the High Jumper - by some "folklore expert" at Bloomingdale, Indiana - no mention of the book by J. Conroy?  They should at least have given you a footnote!?!
   Yes, soon to be time for Poke Sallit - our favorite patch here is overgrown with Pizen ivy - the Italian pushcart vendors in Washington usually have poke sallit in Spring.  Have you tried young MILKWEED - called Wild Spinach in Canada.  I tried it once - rather bitter I thought.   John Rogers
