a rule were Roman Catholics. If I had to choose betwixt R C's and the Presbyterians of No. Ireland, I'd take the R C's. Once in a while I read H. L. Mencken's AMERICAN LANGUAGE (4th edition), and find so much that is pertinent to my own situation - the language barrier. Not the same as the trouble in Belfast, which had strong Scot overtones, mixed with Irish and some sort of North English patois, but troublesome at times. The people are nice enough, but the educational level amongst the workers is so much lower than in the U. S. The speech is generally ungrammatical and filled with "muvvers, favvers, bruvvers, looking frew the window," and plenty of "bloodies." Not so much of underlined: our kind of profanity. "Bastards, bitches, sluts" can be heard on TV, a medium that is much less censored than in the U. S. handwritten insert: Americans speak much more distinctly. Yank T.V. programs well-liked
I've been hearing about the weather in Gawd's Country, and from long personal experience, most of it outdoors, I can sympathize. I changed shirts three times on my last day in NY. Going to London soon. Will visit Collette's and write upon my return. Weather cool today. A nice summer here.
