[sic] I have also been lately appointed a kind of adviser on Educational Television: I know strictly nothing about it, but I am able to understand and translate reports from U.S. educators on expirements [sic] and new techniques. It is a 200 hours contract for three or six months. Also I am going to teach summer school in July and August -at a NDEA Language Institute in Toulouse. I shall have mostly conversation courses with 80 american teachers all together. I have also written one or two articles on Henry Green, an English novelist, and on American Negro Literature for a couple of papers- but it takes too much time, and I am now trying to concentrate upon my thesis.

   Spring has come to Paris and everything is simply delightful.  People walk leisurely, without their coats, women begin to look feminine again and children are everywhere.  Pierre and Jean-Marc are so happy to be able to go outdoors.  Jean-Marc who was born roughly when I saw you is nine months now and he begins to stand up and will walk soon... By the time you come and see us he will begin to talk.  I do hope you will be able to fly over this summer.   I shall be in Toulouse until August 15, then may go to England (London) for a while and will  spend the rest in the country.  But I'll come to Paris when you are there to welcome you this time.  How is Gladys?  And your family at Midlothian?  I had my students translated from THE DISINHERITED the other day, the piece describing the arrival of "pipe line huskies" in the little town all dozing with the depression.  They appreciated "dulce and decorum est...".  French students are very politically aware, I feel, and have what I would call sound reactions, they do not hesitate to demonstrate -even though there is so much inertia in the De Gaulle regime.  Sunday was election day for city councils.  The UNR (gaullists) had manoeuvered [sic] to oust out the communist councils from the "red suburbs"  -the banlieue Sud where we live- but no change occured, [sic] and the UNR even lost 25% of the polls they had got last time though they kept their seats...
  We shall be going to my parents' in law family-home for Easter -from April 7 to April 22, after that I shall serve as an interpreter to a former superintendent of parks of Cook County, Mr Charles Sauers, who is spending two weeks in Paris on a kind of business trip, visiting forests.  I hope that will be rather restful and a kind of holiday - and I also hope I can WORK (i.e. Write) welle [sic] during the vacation itself.   One has never finished.
