first two lines are unclear wood only in the bottoms of Rivers & creeks _ I do not think these prairies have ever been covered with wood, this substance only growing when there is abundance of water - such as on rivers Creeks &c - No scarcity of deer but being in the prairies. We do not hunt - prairie hen (a species of grouse^ rather say Prairie Grouse turtledove, quail, snipe, plover etc - The plantations on the edge of the bottoms - plenty cattle. Sand Hill crane - Wild turkey & saw buffalo one word crossed out "chips"
