The other Evening- I was invited to a ? Concert. Aye: & to sing between the acts - The object being to collect a few tokens to defray expenses, caused by fitting out a Volunteer Company to go out and oppose our Enemies - the Mexicans - Well, the Piano was screwed up to G#. and after a considerable time passed in tuning - The Anderson tuned [unknown] - the Concert Commenced with a Quartette - the Prima & only Donna a delicate young Lady ^Mrs Leah Field^ - found that the instrument was in as base a B flat as one could possibly wish - It was no go - Mr LaHack of the Lg Chas. Linsfield was unwell just having got up from an attack of Ague. & ? with his Voice could not render his Solo 'Largo il Factotum' at all interesting -- I sang sans orchestra 'Trumpet-Sounding' Encored of course - My Companions,
