Dear Jack, 

  There was real enthusiasm in our English Dept over the prospect of your coming to lecture but the dough situation interfered. The relevant committee didn't have money for anybody. There has been all-round crisis here. 
  Staying home this winter-holidays with the kids and grand-children. Look forward to reading autobiog installment JPopCult
