      Marriages. 

This ceremony is performed in three different ways. 1st. If the male and female agree, they can cohabit without further ceremony. 2nd. If a young man loved a girl and she will not consent to marry him, without the consent of her parents; he prepares a present a diquat? to the characters of the girl, and presents it to her parents; if the present is received, the marriage is fixed, if it is returned it is an evidence that they are not willing for the match. 3rd. When an Indian has a son that he wished should marry a virtuous woman, he assembles his friends, and consults with them, what woman his son shall marry. When a choice is made, the setations? of the young man collects what presents they think is sufficient for the occasion and presents them to the girl or indended (sic: intended) bride; they make known their business and returns home without an answer. The setations? of the girl assembles and consults on the subject; if they agree to the match, they collect suitable presents, dresses the girls in her best clothing, and presents her & the articles to the persons
