1866. Monday, January 22. Washington Iowa Snowed all day & is cold & unpleasant. Have spent the day looking over my private matters & find I have between four & five thousand dollars worth of notes. William Sherman go to a party at Crabbs while I call upon Mrs. Higgins & spend a pleasant evening. Ten PM sit in the office having just returned. William Sherman still away. Got our office clock back to day & I got my little diamond ring repaired at Sheldons.
