14 II In the Second place let us look at the principles which Christ taught as illustrating the humility which he requires.

Beginning with the Sermon on the Mount. he taught that "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth." But do the meek inherit the Earth? Is there any one class of men who hold the exclusive right to the possessorship of this world? We answer yes. Meekness of spirit is connected with rest of mind- and this makes much out of little. Pride breeds discontent and the proud and restless do no inherit the Earth though it be in their hands. The humble Christian is richer in his humble cottage than the proud man in the possession of the world. And the wise man made no mistake when he said - "a little with the fear of the Lord is better than great treasure with trouble therewith."
