 During the war of the rebellion I had some little experience as an Army inspector, - both with volunteer and regular troops. And during my - nearly - four years service as an Indian inspector, I have visited very many frontier posts, and come in contact with numerous Army officers and I think these gentlemen will generally bear me out in the statement, that inspections - as at present  conducted in the Indian service, - for thoroughness and care, will compare favorably with like examinations - under the military branch of our public service.
