433 W 31th St. New York May 12, 1883 My dear Nephew,

Yesterday Mary wrote you a card promising a letter today. Your card and letter came together yesterday. We are very glad to hear from you and trust you will not be discouraged tho' you may not do quite so well as you hoped in every place. We shall be anxious to hear again after you have a little longer trial of the work. Edward found his experience on his first trip quite an advantage the last summer. He wrote to us the other day that we ought to see about garden making before you come home because he thinks you cannot get through in time

in margin direct letters - and try to let us know in time. We shall be looking for some word from you very often. How did you leave your father? Had his arm got quite well? Do you think he could get us some safe investment for our bonds - first-class mortgages? How is he prospering? Does he get ahead? I cannot help feeling sorry for him, all alone there, but I cannot see how we could help it. You need to be in school somewhere. Lots and lots of love from your three aunties L.M.H. & A. L. Everett
