image H-like symbol On arriving at the council house, they walked round it once & then entered, and placed the candidate on his appropriate seat. The house on this occasion was prepared as follows viz. The white seats were as usual. Within there in a semicircle, were the red seats for the war chiefs; and immediately before the seat of the great warrior, was the seat prepared for the candidate. etc.

+ The order of the following ceremonies according to some were as follows, viz. The candidate being washed and dressed in clean but common clothes, was conducted to his seat. The four who conducted him, commenced a slow dance round his seat, singing one verse of a certain song as they proceeded round. Then pausing a moment, they went round again singing another verse: and thus till they had sung the whole song consisting of four verses, and passed around him four times. Then the man who walked behind in conducting him to his seat, undressed the candidate, stripping him entirely excepting his flap. Then the man at this right hand, anointed (masked him) as stated. Then the same person who undressed him, now came forward & put on his official dress. This was entirely red, coat, girdle, leggings, garters, moccasins, etc. all red. Then the feather was fastened to his hair, as above, and then the war club was put into his hand. The four men then took their seats, the two red seats on the right and left of that occupied by the candidate, two on each seat. (enquire)
