There are said to be some very [?] and cultivated persons residing here. I met Lee & Reynolds who since I interfered with them as "Kings of the Territory" have turned their attention to mining - It seems a very thriving busy town - There are 3 smelters doing full business & I saw some new Charcoal pits (at least new to me) built of brick - Lake fork here divides - two beautiful streams uniting to form it - in neither of which can a trout be found - no one knows why - for they say there were none before mining might have injured or fouled the water. No grass, bought hay at 5 C or $100 per ton for my animals - I had hardly got into Camp till Hugh Patton came up
