most moral, or the vilest of the vile. Thirdly- They are received promptly, and with open arms; and because He loves them. The reason why converted sinners so often go so long without acceptance is because they do not come to Christ - they seek something in themselves, or hesitate to give up their pride of heart, or some cherished desire; or theirself-righteousness; but as soon as they relinquish these and come to Christ, trusting in Him alone, He receives them at once, as the father received his prodigal son in the parable. No matter how much they are filled with the bad odor of sin; no matter how much they are covered with the filth of vileness. There is no better testimony to the truth of the doctrine of election by grace than the effect of such a sermon upon the hearer; for I cannot see how any one capable in himself, of fully understanding and appreciating the truths so plainly set forth in this sermon, can resist the conviction that their only way of salvation is by Christ and the inclination to accept it, and hence forth live in the knowledge and love of it. But, no, they hear but do not understand, and nothing except the influence of the Holy Ghost given by the grace of God will make them understand, and bring them to Jesus. Even
